K architektonicky zaujímavým stavbám v Banskej Bystrici patrí hotel Národný dom. V roku 1924, ako absolvent ČVUT – Fakulty architektúry, projektoval túto budovu rodák zo Slovenskej Ľupče, Prof.Ing.arch. Emil Belluš, DrSc. a bola dokončená v roku 1929. Bola jeho prvým projektom, slúžila ako polyfunkčný dom a bola postavená v tradicionalistickom duchu. Prof.Ing.arch. Emil Belluš, DrSc. je tvorcom rôznych významných stavieb, ako je Kolonádový most v Piešťanoch, budova Národnej banky v Bratislave ( dnes GP ), budova Novej radnice v Bratislave, budova Fakulty architektúry STU v Bratislave, budova hotela Devín v Bratislave ( spoluautori Krampl a Uhliarik ) atď. Pri návrhu a realizácii interiéru hotela Národný dom sme sa snažili nadviazať na štýl funkcionalizmu, ktorý arch. Belluš vo svojej tvorbe prezentoval. Jemným doplnením prvkov prelínjúceho sa ďalšieho štýlu, kompozíciou farieb, tvarov a tradičného kvalitného materiálu sme dosiahli elegantný, mierne provokujúci interiér s nádychom sentimentu.
